About us

Metallurgy, which started with the shaping of pure metals by smelting in the early ages, has evolved into materials science; covering subjects requiring interdisciplinary work such as; iron-steel, glass-ceramic, polymers, composites, semiconductors, biomaterials and non-metallic materials.

Material science aims to design, develop and produce new materials that will make Daily life easier and increase the life quality of humanity, and to create new areas of use for existing materials.
Therefore, developments in materials science pave the way for technological innovations in different fields. This situation necessitates the existence of institutions that will produce internationally qualified knowledge and technology in the field of materials science and technologies in developed and developing countries.

In this context, the Department of Materials Science and Technology, which was opened in 2014 within the Faculty of Science of the Turkish-German University, aims to educate qualified personnel who will produce new technologies in this field in our country, make these technologies available to the society, and who are leading in their professions and are internationally accepted.

In our department, there are basic science courses in the first year, and in the following years, special courses in materials science such as Fundamentals of Materials Science, Biomaterials, Nanomaterials, Polymers, Metallic Materials, Steel Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics and Characterization are conducted in German language by Turkish and German faculty members.

Four-year undergraduate education includes theoretical courses as well as industrial internships and graduation thesis that will provide students experience in their fields. Graduates of this department have a wide range of employment opportunities ranging from the automotive industry to the aircraft industry, from the ceramic industry to the electronics industry.
